Bisbenzylisoquinolines as a whole have been reviewed and special emphasis have been placed on the bisbenzylisoquinolines from Tiliacora and Triclisia species. A detail review have also been presented on funiferine. Physico-chemical analysis have been carried out on funiferine and this included partition coefficient, pKa and rate of quaternization determinations. Two derivatives of funiferine, 0-methyl and 0-Isopropyl derivatives, were synthesized. The Brine shrimp lethality Bioassay has been carried out on funiferine, 0-methylfuniferine and 0-isopropylfuniferine as a preliminary cytotoxicity test. The structure-activity relationship of these related compounds have been established and in the order. 0—isopropylfuniferine > 0—methylfuniferine > funiferine.
