- ItemBarriers to environmentally sustainable procurement of goods at Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).(NOVEMBER, 2016 ) Frimpong, CharlesThe study sought to examine the barriers limiting the adoption of environmentally sustainable procurement of goods at Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). The researcher interviewed five (5) individuals identified with procurement function at KMA to collect data. The study established that environmentally sustainable procurement of goods was being practiced but faced a lot of barriers to get the full benefit of it. Procurement contracts of goods were being awarded taking into account the lowest evaluated bid and other considerations such as ecological elements were not included in tender evaluation. The study found out that, the absence of administration backing was a limiting factor in the adoption of environmental sustainable procurement of goods at KMA. Lack of knowledge about sustainable concept, the perception that sustainable goods are expensive especially at the initial stages added to the difficulties influencing the adoption of environmentally sustainable procurement. The study suggests that there ought to be thorough employee training to educate staffs on the need to adopt environmentally sustainable procurement of goods. Benefits of ecologically supportable procurement of goods should be the emphasis and the risks of non-sustainability should also be known. Additionally, motivating incentives ought to be given to suppliers to urge them to develop sustainable products. A sustainable procurement strategic policy ought to be put in place.

- ItemA user‐friendly colour matching system for tie‐dye/batik producers(2009-07-13) Frimpong, CharlesThe tie-dye/batik industry in Ghana has not lived to its full potential due to shortcomings that include the narrow range of colours available on the market, which in turn, have resulted in products having similar colour schemes. The methods employed in this project are a result of inspiration drawn from colour matching systems used in various industries. Test dyeing experiments were conducted to generate a scheme for generating different shades out of two colours. This scheme was used to generate 130 different shades out of an initial 9 colours. Spectrophotometer tests that serve to determine the unique characteristics of each colour were conducted and spectral curves generated for each mixture. Additionally, tests of reproducibility were conducted on selected mixtures to determine the extent of success of the scheme adopted for mixing. The colours generated, together with some vital information about the mixture have been documented in a catalogue that every tie-dye/batik producer can use and achieve same results. As the first step in changing the status quo, it has been recommended that this solution be brought to the knowledge of producers of tie-dye/batik through the organization of workshops and re-training programmes by interested governmental and private agencies. This coupled with the availability of the basic elements of the system will surely make this solution effective.
