dc.description.abstractThe Upper West Region (UWR) of Ghana covers a geographical area of 18,476km2. Out of this, an estimated area of 12,933.2km2 representing 70% is arable with about 80% of the populace engaged in agriculture. Majority of these people are small-scale farmers who depend mainly on rain-fed agriculture for their livelihood. However, the area falls within the semi-arid region of Ghana which is characterised by viable and uni-model (April-September) rainfall pattern.
