| dc.description.abstract | In Ghana, a little attempt has been made to document a few contemporary Ghanaian sculptors. The result is that little is known of other successful sculptors and does not promote the growth of this aspect of Art. It is also starves students and researches with information on Ghanaian sculptors and their work Lack of adequate documentation on contemporary Ghanaian sculptor and their contribution to the development of Ghana therefore tends to pose a great problem for the future of the profession. There is therefore a fear that the profession will demise with pass of time and great work lost to posterity. In this regard, this thesis attempt to documents the work and activities of ten contemporary Ghanaian sculptors as part of solving the documentation problem in the area of contemporary Ghanaian sculpture and their contribution towards national development. The criteria for their selection were based on the state of practice reputation attained and contribution to the development of the art in Ghana. The descriptive narration approach had been adopted for the thesis. This method allows the user of the questionnaire and personal interview to collect demographic and other certified information about the study population. Personal interview and discussions were employed for in-depth information on their styles philosophies and contribution made toward the development of the country. The thesis observes that the sculptors have diverse opinions and approaches to the use of materials and styles. Whatever method and approach they adapt is certainly based on their experiences. This is evident in their source of inspiration leading to the inception of ideas in their means of expression and ways of using media. What is very apparent and indeed remarkable in the approach of these sculptors is the knowledge that they all demonstrate in content and from As a way of contributing towards the promotion of sculpture is also a write up on the life and work of the selected sculptors which tend to justify the purpose of the study. | en_US |
