dc.description.abstractUrbanization at the world scale is a phenomenon with both rich and a relatively new building with cities appearing at least 5,000 years ago. Living patterns in cities will likely evolve new forms in the future just as has occurred in the past in the world as a whole. Each new urban development is an outgrowth of the heritage of the past, adapted to new circumstances and lifestyle in space. The organization and growth of this spatial configuration visa-via their prob1en can be explained by the increasing concentration of people and economic activities on the landscape. From the earliest city formation within the Fertile Crescent of the Tigris and Euphrates through Greek and Roman Tradition to the present day mega cities in industrialized nations, urbanisation has become a universal process. Louis Wirth in his writings asserts that urbanization will become a way of life of all people. Even though urbanization is a universal process every city’s building process varies widely in substance and philosophy. Population in urban cities have increased from about one out of every 8 persons living in an urban area in the last century to about 2.6 billion in the present century and approximately 3.0 billion by the turn of the century, 75 of which will be in the third world, due to high population growth rate and continued rural migration. Cities in the third world are growing at a rate of 5 or more into larger metropolis. Although population growth has accelerated economic interaction and reduced transportation cost especially in the CBD, has produced pronounced negative effects in terms of their spatial organization, service provision, traffic congestion,en_US
