| dc.description.abstract | In the past, people joined organizations and stayed with them for their entire working lives. However, in recent times it has been discovered that employees have become increasingly concerned about their career prospects. This study was carried out to assess the efficacy or otherwise of the set of criteria used in the assessment of Senior Members in the University of Education, Winneba for promotion. The main objective was to look at the problems as well as the good sides of the criteria and make recommendations for its improvement. Questionnaire and interviews were used as the main methods of data collection. Other documents obtained from the University were also used as sources of data. The total population for the study was 325. A sample size of 80 was chosen for the study. The main findings arrived at indicated that most Senior Members of the University were aware of the existence of the promotion criteria but had not made efforts to acquaint themselves with the details. Some problems associated with the criteria were delays, bureaucracy and difficulty in getting external assessors. The general perception of respondents on the criteria was that it needs to be improved upon because it discourages hard work. Some of the recommendations made were that the Division of Human Resource should make copies of the promotion criteria available to all Senior Members, the procedures involved in applying for promotion should be reviewed to make the processing of applications faster. The application for promotion form should also be revised to make it more explanatory and easier to complete. | en_US |
