Atomic Absorption Speetrophoiornetry technique was used to determine the lvels of the heavy metals zinc, cadmium and lead in food samples drawn from Tarkwa and its environs, a mining area, after wet digestion with cone HNO3. The preliminary studies showed very high values for Taikwa above tiiose of the other sites; Acheampoa, Ahwetieso, Hunyanu and Kojo Djan. The impact analysis was therefore focused on Tarkwa and zero. 4 in on the two suburbs Atuabo and Brahabebor, close to the mine Goldfields Ghana Limited. The range of the concentration (ppm, dry weight) of the metals is as follows: Atuabo: Zinc, 30.20 to 85.70 (±16.84) Cadmium, 4.20 to 7.4C (±1.05) Lead, 14.90to25.20 (±3.32) Brahabebor: Zinc, 33.20 to 266.50 (±67.65) Cadmium, 4.7Oto 8.40 (±1.16) Lead 6.10to34.20 (±17.60)en_US
