Formal education and social change affect cultures all over the world in diverse ways. In Ghana, the concept of colour and its application has been adversely affected over the years. Application of colour symbolically is dying out fast, due to social change in modern Ghanaian culture. On the other hand, the idea of colour application in Ghanaian schools has been a foreign tradition, emphasizing theories rather than practicals. There should be a change in the approach to application of colour, a change to suit Ghanaian concept and culture. This thesis, therefore, aims at introducing natural means by which colour-work can be done to reduce complexity and theories. Colours are, therefore studied and analysed to facilitate colour- work in schools in Ghana. On the other hand, it views symbolic application of colour in the Ghanaian society as basis of Ghanaian culture. The thesis, therefore suggests symbolic application of certain combined colours in the society. The main research method employed is analytical and descriptive. Information was collected through personal interviews, observation and from books. The scope of research covered the study and analysis of colour from selected plant, animal and mineral sources available in Ghana. It also covers the study and analysis of symbolic use of colour in the Ghanaian culture.en_US
