Abstract: This paper describes serials management at GIMPA which has responsibility for promoting the study of public administration and management in Ghana. GIMPA provides management training on a residential basis and consultancy services to public and private enterprises. The library aims at collecting all types of serials on its major fields. Due to budgetary and foreign exchange constraints it subscribes to 274 periodicals and receives 236 titles which would have been purchased, through gift and exchange arrangements. The Institute’s official publications are used as exchange materials. Items selected for acquisition are carefully evaluated in terms of their intrinsic values, intellectual level and their appropriateness to the user groups. Other aspects of cost and benefits are also taken into consideration in the selection process. Facilities and serial-related technical services provided to ensure full exploitation and benefits to library users are described. It is concluded that the goals of serials management have lately not been fully achieved. This is because the role the Institute’s management ought to play has not been forthcoming.
