Abstract
The petrological, geochemical and genetic relationships characterising the Ichiniso bauxite deposit have been examined. Seven litho-units, segregating into iron-rich and iron-poor varieties, have been distinguished. It is concluded that the bauxite resulted from the removal of Na, K, Ca, silica and iron by leaching when kaolinitic clays, developed from the phyillite bedrock, were subjected to varying Eh — pH conditions. Resilication of the low-lying section of the deposit have recognised.
