Abstract
Providing good and reliable data is one of the most difficult tasks facing business organizations today. This study examines how Data Management in the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) could be improved using a case study of the Kumasi Area Office in the Ashanti Region. Using data collected from both primary and secondary sources the study made a number of important findings. The Trist is unable to issue out good and reliable data on the members of the scheme and also unable to provide accurate data for actuarial evaluations. Secondly the software systems used by the Trust are not integrated, thereby giving way for the running of different software systems by each operating department. In order for SSNIT to build, operate and maintain an effective Database Management System, the I.T. Department should provide an Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) based on the state of the art Relational Database Management Systems, Computers, Data communication technologies that are founded on a complete and accurate database. It is also recommended that the trust should introduce a policy for data dissemination to avoid inconsistencies and discrepancies in the flow of data from the Trust, and also to make identified departments responsible for the dissemination of all types of data from the Trust. Data getting out from this outfit should be considered final. To become more functional and forestall the provision of inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous information, the Trust should integrate the various software system
