Abstract: | The paper reviews and explains the concept of 'Library consortia', gives a background, including its history and issues involved such as types. and services provided. It also gives the history of' the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH). The role of a consortium in Library Collection Development, Interlibrary Lending, Resource Sharing, Human Resource Sharing and Development is also examined.It 1s within these broad concepts, that the theme of Library Consortia and the enhancement of education and research in Ghana is explored. The paper determines how these concepts, if properly adopted and utilized by Ghanaian Academic and Research Libraries, in a consortium, Would facilitate research and thereby contribute to the advancement of education at all levels in Ghana. |
