Abstract: All road construction projects are undertaken with the aim of improving or develop the economy of an area or locality. These projects are undertaken for the locals in the project area. A properly documented external stakeholder management is therefore necessary to achieve a successful road project construction outcome. The purpose of this research is to investigate the external stakeholder management practices in road construction projects. This research has three objectives. The first objective is to identify the various external stakeholders in road construction and the second objective is to identify the factors that can influence external stakeholders in road construction. The last objective of this research is to analyse the influence of external stakeholders on road construction projects. Quantitative method was used in this research to gather the data needed. Questionnaires were administered to collect the required information used in this research. The Questionnaires were divided into two sections with Section A being general information about the respondents which questions in Section B were tailored towards the research objectives. The findings from the research were that it was absolutely necessary that all external stakeholders are properly identified and classified according to their various power and interests. It was also found out that there are certain factors that are important to use in winning over external stakeholders that will aid any project team in achieving a successful project outcome and also that due to limitations in the form of time and budget, team members need to properly manage the external stakeholders when it is absolutely necessary considering different external stakeholders have different requirements at different stages of road construction project. These imply having well done external stakeholder management to engage these external stakeholders will most likely aid in achieving a successful road project outcome. It is recommended that project teams must make all due effort to prepare a proper external stakeholder management plan before commencing any road construction project and in preparing this stakeholder management plan, views of randomly selected external stakeholders must be solicited
