Abstract: | Providingaccesstomodernenergyservicesfordevelopmentisadauntingtaskwhichrequiresrigorous
planning basedonrobustinformation.Energyaccessindicatorsenablemeasurementandmonitoringof
the progressofenergyaccessexpansionefforts,thusinformingcorrectiveeffortsandeffortsworth
replicating. Thispaperreviewswhathasbeenproposedtoconstituteenergyaccessandenergyaccess
indicators. Thepaperfurtherreviewsbriefly thedifferenttypesofenergyaccessindicatorsandanalyses
access tomodernenergyinGhanaasmeasuredusingtheenergyaccessindicatorsemployedinGhana.
The paperconcludesthatGhanahasachievedcommendableaccesstomodernenergyservicescompared
to hersub-Saharanpeersbutrecommendsfurthereffortstoachievethesettargetsofuniversalaccessto
electricity by2020and50%accesstoLPGby2020.Thepaper finally recommendsfurtherworkonthe
different typesofindicatorswhicharerelevantfortrackingenergyaccessprogressbutarenotcurrently
employedinthecountry. |
